Online consortium classes

Online Consortium for Independent Colleges and Universities (OCICU)

Brenau University recently joined the Online Consortium for Independent Colleges and Universities (OCICU), a consortium that makes available a limited number of additional online classes from regionally accredited member institutions selected by the university’s administration. Access to these SACS-accredited courses may allow a student to complete a degree program as planned and, in some cases, may enable a student to accelerate his or her degree completion.

These classes are conducted on the member institution’s academic schedule and abide by its academic policies. Students register for these classes, designated by a special section code "C", via CampusWEB or by paper registration at Brenau. Upon registration, the member institution begins contacting students with information regarding its calendar, policies, support services, and course management system access. Students will participate in classes from member institutions where the class and its instructor have been reviewed and approved by the appropriate Brenau University academic department. For the fall term, only the Department of Business will be coordinating the pilot program.

Students are billed by and pay tuition and fees to Brenau University. Grades are submitted by the instructor to the secure OCICU website. The Registrar will be checking the website during posting dates to transition the information to the Brenau database. Courses taken at provider institutions are posted to student transcripts as if they were taken at Brenau. They do not appear as transfer credit.

Students registering for classes from the consortium will contact the instructor directly regarding issues with the course. The grade dispute or appeal process would follow the student’s home school (Brenau University) policies. Both the home institution and provider institution will then work together on corrective measures. It is incumbent upon the student to be proactive in these issues with Brenau University and the provider institution. If students experience technical difficulty with the course management system (Blackboard, WebCT, etc.) of the member institution, the technical support staff of the member institution will answer questions.

If you have any questions, please contact Melissa Holman, Student Coordinator in the Online College (770-718-5327).
